Project

RMIT’s City North Social Innovation Precinct

Project overview

The Neighbourlytics platform played a pivotal role in shaping the Master Plan for RMIT’s ambitious Social Innovation Precinct in Melbourne’s city north.

RMIT’s vision for a vibrant innovation hub, nestled between Lygon, Victoria, Swanston, and Queensberry streets, is poised to revolutionise community wellbeing by seamlessly blending people and technology.

This precinct will serve as a nucleus for research, ideation, skill development, and technological advancement, fostering collaboration across disciplines and organisations to tackle contemporary social challenges head-on.

The imminent implementation of the Master Plan promises to transform this area into a globally recognised Social Innovation Precinct, addressing both the demand for expertise in critical sectors and bolstering Melbourne’s innovation landscape.

With its unique amalgamation of vocational and higher education, innovation endeavours, community engagement, and industry alliances, the precinct is primed to shape the city’s trajectory.

Here, the future of social care and wellbeing will be redefined, and sustainable urban development will be realised.

This visionary project, spanning two decades, will evolve through RMIT’s leadership and collaborative partnerships, pooling resources for the design, funding, and execution of the plan.

There are already early examples of the precinct coming to life and driving collaborations between academics, students, industry, and the wider RMIT community. These include the Social Innovation HubActivatorHealth Transformation LabWorkforce Innovation and Development Institute (WIDI), PlaceLabAsia Trade and Innovation Hub (ATIH), and the Multifaith and Wellbeing Centre.
