Compare rent vs income
Using the socio-demographic layers in our Discover tool to compare rent and income
It's not new news that rents are outpacing income, especially across Sydney. But it's still shocking to see the stark reality in the numbers.
35 suburbs immediately around Liverpool and Parramatta are in the bottom 20% of Australian suburbs based on income levels (aqua colour), yet only TWO of those suburbs enjoy low rents.
In fact most of these low income suburbs have rent levels in the TOP 30 - 20% of Australian suburbs (and to be honest, that data is from the ABS so a little out of date...)
And it gets worse, in two suburbs the average weekly rent is HIGHER than weekly personal income:
Fairfield Heights (Rent: $450, Income $431)
Greenfield Park (Rent: $460, Income $462)
(And for the record, the NSW average is Rent: $420, Income: $813)
Suburb level socio-demographic stats like this of course don't tell the whole story. But it's a very interesting place to start when looking to understand the lived experience of neighbourhoods.
