Byron Bay Creative Precinct
The project team was enlisted to shape the future planning of the Creative Industries Precinct in Byron Bay, NSW.
The challenge
The Byron Bay Shire Council required data to inform future planning of their Creative Industries Precinct.
They were also keen to compare the performance of their own creative precinct to a recognised benchmark creative precinct.
The solution
Neighbourlytics was engaged as part of a broader consultant team to capture data for the Byron Bay Creative Industries Precinct, the Byron Bay town centre and for Collingwood, the Shire’s nominated benchmark creative precinct location.
The data captured included information about the physical characteristics of each location, the range of destinations and community places at each location, information about the degree to which local places are engaged with and promoted and the range of events occurring and level of engagement with these at each location.
This data was presented to Shire stakeholders and community members at the beginning of a multi-day design charrette in order to provide participants with an understanding of the creative precinct’s strengths and opportunities.
The impact
Participants provided feedback immediately following the presentation. The ability to understand their precinct’s strengths and assets, and how it compared to a nationally recognised successful creative precinct was highly valued.
Participants felt that commencing the charrette in this way provided a strong foundation of understanding upon which to build further ideas and to consider how future investment could be best targeted.
