What uses/types of businesses qualify as arts and culture businesses? What’s your methodology for filtering them and placing them in this category of destination? Thanks!

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

When our system ingests data, our algorithm automatically assigns a place to a category based on its primary function. Its primary function is determined by the geo-tag it was given when it was publicly created. We don't usually change an assigned category; however, when anomalies do occur, we conduct manual quality assurance to ensure the results we provide are as accurate as possible.

I'm having a bit of a dive into the arts and culture destinations search on Neighbourlytics. A few queries:

- Why are Springly Theatre and Greenvale Theatre not appearing in this category? There are other venues and theatres appearing. I selected all times of day and night so not sure why Springly Theatre and Greenvale Theatre are not included.

- When we add the night-time category, it has too many hospitality and retail, which we don't want, so I'm trying to stick with arts and culture

- Newsagencies are featured in publishing and literature/ arts and culture, which are not relevant. Any tips on how to get a good streamlined list?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

With regards to Springly Theatre and Greenvale Theatre not displaying in the nighttime filter, our system analyses and categorises data pulled in from various sources, one type being publicly edited maps like Google Maps. Because our system uses the data provided from these maps, if no opening times are listed/associated with a location, time-based filters are unable to be applied to them. As such, you'll notice that neither of those theatres displays when any time filter has been selected.

In terms of too many retail and hospitality venues displaying under the Nighttime Entertainment filter shortcut, if you scroll down in the menu bar, you can see the breakdown of each of the categories included within the filter and select or remove any you'd like to be included/excluded. You can also add other categories that are not included as part of the preset filter, if they are relevant to your investigation.

Lastly, news agencies are included in the 'Literature, Publishing or Writing' category simply because they sell newspapers and magazines. We applied similar reasoning to them as when we decided to include bookstores in the same category. Unfortunately, because news agencies are included in the subcategory already, they can't be filtered out any further in the platform. However, it is possible to manually remove them from the list of places provided when you generate a CSV. I know that's not a perfect solution, but hopefully that is somewhat helpful to you.

I was wondering whether I might ask you for a quick clarification, if that's not too much trouble!

Neighbourlytics' walk shed functionality: how are the centroids for the isochrones selected and is there presently a way to manually adjust this within the tool?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The standard reports are generated using the busiest part of a suburb as the centrepoint - meaning this is the centroid used for the walking and driving catchments.

If you requested a custom location report, you can select the centrepoint yourself, changing the catchment analysis too.

There is also a walking/driving plot tool within the Explorer tool, which allows you to select different centre points across a neighbourhood at different travel times (10, 20 or 30 mins).

Relevance
USER:

Can I ask, how specifically is the relevance score worked out? We are getting asked a lot of questions about this (what does 1 vs 5 mean, etc.) and want to be able to confidently explain it.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Unfortunately, due to it being proprietary information, I can't specifically detail the process by which we determine a place's Relevance score as it would be infringing on our intellectual property. However, I will try to provide more clarity about the metric to hopefully help you answer your clients' questions.

A relevance score is calculated by combining and assessing digital interactions with a specific place through check-ins, likes, ratings and reviews from multiple data sources. A place can be assigned a relevance score of 1 - 10, with 10 being the highest score a place can achieve.

You may have noticed that, in the Attractors section of some of your Insights Reports, some places are listed with a heart symbol next to their ranking - this heart symbol indicates a place that has a relevance score of 9 or above. A place with a relevance score of 9 or higher is in the top 10% of places in its category, across the country, making it an important asset to the immediate community, but also potentially a much wider audience.

I have had some questions from the client and am hoping you can help me. Could you please describe how the "Important" attractors are defined - is it dwell time from phones or posting about these on social media? and then how do you determine the"Average Relevance Score"?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The Most Important Attractors are defined based on their Relevance score ranking, which is computed based on the quantity of engagement with each point of interest.

A high Relevance score indicates a high level of digital engagement for a place within its category (as determined by our proprietary classification system) and geography. This means that a place with a high relevance score may not be the busiest location in an area; however, the amount of digital interaction with it indicates how important and influential it is to the local community.

In case it's helpful to you, I thought it was worth mentioning that we have both an FAQ page and Technical Forum page on our website with answers to similar questions and more.
