The place of origin analysis lists a lot of nearby suburbs. Can I confirm that if an a place of origin was large but from interstate, it should show up in this list? I think they’re a bit disappointed that they don’t have more interstate visitors.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The visitation analysis only shows visitation from within the same city, not interstate. HOWEVER the reason for this is that there are no Australian suburbs (other than airports)that have interstate visitors within the top 50 neighbourhoods. So I can confirm that Docklands does not have more interstate visitors than local visitors.

Custom location; View reports
USER:

What happened to our Springly custom location? Since we received our new location the old one is no longer on the viewport when I open the log in anymore...

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

We've checked your account, and both locations are still available, however only the most recent custom location is linked to the Front Desk landing page (which may be where the confusion lies). The way to look up all your locations is using the 'Reports Menu' section of the "Insights Report" tool. Under the "Your customised reports" section, you will see both Springly and Greenvale, just below your saved public locations.

Custom locations; Hotspots
USER:

I'm trying to interpret the hotspot data for Greenvale. When I look at the suburb results compared to the public report the hotspot data changes - as though the results are different for the same location. Should I request a custom location for my neighbourhood so that I know it is accurate?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The Greenvale report is one of our public locations - the way to 'split it up' would be to request additional custom boundaries for your more specific smaller areas. However the results for Greenvale as a whole is still correct. The difference that you see when you flick between the other locations is due to the scaling of the results. The colour scales on the results are 'bracketed' based on the percentile results for the data capture area. This means that 'very high' is the top 15 percent of all results within that data capture boundary. So if the boundary is bigger or smaller, the range shown is bigger or smaller. To illustrate this point a little further, another example would be if we looked at the whole of Australia in one view, probably only Sydney and Melbourne would appear 'very high' with the rest of Australia appearing 'normal' or even 'low'. If you want to discuss this further, then just let us know. If you'd like to request an additional custom location you can go ahead and do so through your Add ons cart in your Upgrade portal. The new location could be processed within 1 business day if you are still working to a tight deadline.

Custom locations; Base maps
USER:

It’s probably a long shot, but is it possible to show our centre boundaries on the maps?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Sorry! I wish we could say yes, but unfortunately we cant show you custom boundary outlines on the individual maps. In your custom locations you can see the data capture boundary if you click on the "about this report" bar at the top of each report. This will expand the section and show you the precise data caputre area for the report.

Base maps
USER:

We have found a couple of errors in the maps, typo and a couple of beaches labelled incorrectly. Is it possible for these to be amended? I realise you are using a third-party map base so you may not have any control over the labels.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Unfortunately we can't directly control the labels on the base maps. We use Mapbox, which is powered by Open Street Map (OSM). Typically someone at your Council would be maintaining this to make sure it is correct, and providing OSM with the correct polygons. Looking into this result, it appears that OSM has Moffat Beach running the whole distance from Dicky Beach right down to the point. Once OSM is changed, then Mapbox will be refreshed within a couple of weeks, if not sooner.

USER:

I know the custom locations are using the boundaries provided, but I was wondering if it's possible for the hot spots to have a more organic finish to the shapes rather than just being cut off.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Yes we understand this request, and I've had a lengthy discussion with our analysts around it. In short, this 'cutting' is analytically correct, and further smoothing would distort the results. Analytically, heatmaps need to be calculated on a regular 'step'. When an irregular shape is used (such as the polygons) we have to use latitude and longitude as this 'step'. which creates a rectangular shape boundary for analysis - along the lat/long steps. The effect of this 'cutting' is most pronounced when there is a highly active pocket close to the edge of the shape.

USER:

Can I zoom out and see multiple activity centres?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Depending on what data sets you are most keen to compare across different locations, there are different ways to do this. The Insights Reports are always one location at a time, and while you can toggle between locations (in the 'Reports' menu) to see how they compare, you cannot ' zoom out' to see more than 1 location in a single report. This is because each report is 'scaled' to itself - meaning 'high' activity in one location may be different to 'high' in another. For behavioural data (activity hotspots of visitation) you can easily compare locations to one another in the Discover tool. This interface allows you to click across different suburbs to see how the results change. For amenities mapping (to attractions) you can use the Explorer tool to compare custom locations to one another. Just utilise the 'compare mode' toggle, and this will allow you to select more than 1 location for comparisons and ranking.

USER:

How will I know if the custom locations we have in mind are suitable for the custom boundaries? I know there are size restrictions and if it’s too small a space then it might not be possible, so it would be good to check this.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Here is some guidance on how to choose the best custom location size and shape. But if you're still unsure on whether your locations will provide good results, just send me through the locations and I can pass them on to our team to confirm their viability for use as custom boundaries. Best size: Depending on your geographic area, custom locations smaller than 3km2 (2km2 in CBD locations) may yield limited data due to a smaller sample size, potentially affecting the robustness of your findings. Some of our data results have an error of up to 50m, so shapes that are too 'narrow' can be problematic. ‍In instances where you are seeking to analyse the lifestyle around a specific location - such as a shopping centre or park - we recommend including a 1-block radius around this location to ensure you pick up all relevant activity. Best shape: The strength of our data is to provide you with the ‘context’ around your focus area. For this reason the best shape for a data boundary is usually a circle around your area of focus. We recommend a 1km radius for typical neighbourhoods, smaller for CBD locations, and larger for regional locations. The exception for this, is where there is a point of interest within your context that you wish to exclude from analysis so that it does not ‘contaminate’ your data. For example, if you are trying to understand visitation to your town centre, and there is a hospital on the town’s edge, you may wish to exclude the hospital from the analysis so that your visitation results reflect town centre visitors, and not the hospital visitors. Our Help Centre also includes articles on how to request a custom location or choose the best comparison locations.

Pro Seat; Custom locations
USER:

I’m thinking about the custom boundaries and historic data. Basically, we can use the standard information available through the ‘Pro’ subscription but want to also create 2-3 customer boundaries for projects that are soon to be starting. However, we have more projects in the pipeline but they aren’t as far advanced so we aren’t ready to consider these yet.So for now we are keen to sign up for the year ‘Pro’ subscription and include 3 custom boundaries, but then add some more later and just want to make sure the invoice reflects this.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

You can absolutely start by purchasing the Pro subscription and three custom boundaries now and can add additional custom boundaries as they progress further in your pipeline; that is no issue at all. Custom boundaries can be purchased through our platform as an "Add on". To request additional custom boundaries, check out our Purchasing Guide in the Help Centre. This guide walks you through how you can build your own quote directly in our platform, as well as add "Add Ons" to your account. The Help Centre also includes articles on how to request a custom location or choose the best comparison locations.

I think I know what we need at the moment. There may however be additional elements we want to add further down the line as we develop our projects and get a better feel for what we can do with the data – I take it we would be able to add features and reports easily enough in the future?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Yes, you can easiily add 'Add ons' to your account at any time. Add ons include custom boundaries, Archive Reports, or premium data such as Activity Trends. To do this, simply log into your account, then use the 'Purchase Add ons' button on your Account portal to select the add ons you would like.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

We have a bunch of resources available online to help you with this. First, take a look at our latest pricing and feaetures on the "Pricing" page on our website, or by clicking on the "Upgrade" button when you're logged into the platform. This will give you a summary of our prices and inclusions. Our Purchasing Guide (available in our Help Centre) also takes you through the steps on how to build a quote, and you can always book a time to speak with us if you need additional support.

Pro seat; Change over time
USER:

I'm not sure what my Pro seat includes, if we start this month is it one month of data, and then one archive report? I thought we had a 12 month view but is that from this date onwards? I’d like to be able to contrast a warm month to a cold month to be honest as our assumption is that the weather and wind plays a big role in curbing visitation. Perhaps we should go for June?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The custom report that is part of your order will show September 2024 data and be refreshed monthly for the 12 months of your subscription. Each refresh shows the data results of the previous month. The archive report functions like a 'snapshot' of a point in time - a single calendar month - so it will always show the data results for whichever month you request it to cover.

Add ons; Activity Trends Tool
USER:

The Activity over Time Tool appears to only be available for Springly. I thought this would be available for any ‘public’ location once purchased as an add on. The quote certainly doesn’t restrict it to the custom location. Could you clarify?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The Activity Over Time tool is an 'Add on', meaning it is only applied to a single report - in this instance it is applied to the Springly August 2024 data report. In your quote you were able to amend the quantities to 'add on' this section to additional reports. However since this tool already covers 13 months, our users typically only add it on one a year. For example, if you now decide to add it on to your August 2025 report, you will have a complete picture.

Pro Seat; Custom location
USER:

I’m curious to know what is ‘custom’ about the Springly 1.2km radius that forms part of our Pro subscription?I’m confused because the Pro Seat quote stated that it included detailed results for a custom location but Springly doesn’t seem any more custom than say Greenvale or Villton. Is Springly also one of the 9,300 ‘public’ locations?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

All paid seats include 1 custom location. Custom locations are where you are able to define a geography of your choice, in this instance you have requested to align the data boundary with your 2023 results - a 1.2km radius from the centre of Midland.Custom locations are only visible by the person requesting it, and every month the data capture area will be the same.Custom locations also include:> Access to the Explorer tool, enabling you to dive into the amenities data> The monthly reports save in your library, enabling you to 'look back' month by monthSpringly is also included as a 'public' location. Public locations are generated from the busiest part of each suburb - this means they may move around from month to month if the 'busy' area changes.

USER:

I'm wondering if you could provide some more colour to how the Relevance Score is calculated and what inputs go into that? I understand this is take from digital place data about how often a service/organisation is searched or accessed via maps but i wonder if you could help me differentiate the numerical scoring. Noting for example i saw that one public school with a preschool on site had a 1/10 relevance score whilst the public high school next to it had a 3/10. Presuming these are both heavily accessed buildings i wonder if you could help me understand this indicator more?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The relevance score is computed based on the quantity of engagement with each point of interest. Places with high scores have a high level of digital engagement for their place category (places are assigned to categories based on the proprietary classification system we have created) and their geography. This means that a place with a high relevance score may not be the busiest location in an area, however, the amount of digital interaction with it indicates how important and influential it is to the local community.

Custom location
USER:

I’ve had a quick chat with my manager about this and there was a question I had on the ability to drill down or get more data on specific location (i.e. rather than just looking at the Springly area, I want to see about a street or park) and costs attached to this.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

With the custom location provided as part of the Pro subscription, you can choose a boundary that provides the data results for a specific location. However, how small an area you can 'drill into' depends on the type of data result you are interested in.- Visitation data (movement and activity hotspots) has a limit to how 'small' a boundary you can choose to ensure the data still provides viable results. We can guide you at the time but typically we recommend selecting a boundary no smaller than around 500m across.- Amenities data analysis can be as fine grain as you choose using our Explorer tool. To do this, once you have set up a larger neighbourhood, you can use our Explorer tool to create smaller precincts for more in-depth analysis. Explorer is available for all custom locations with a Pro subscription and on all standard reports too (those that can be generated via the Front Desk and Discover) with the Advanced subscription.- As with Amenities data, Accessibility analysis can be honed in on smaller areas by using the Explorer tool. Explorer allows you to create walking and driving catchments for any custom location and/or standard report location. In terms of cost, choosing a smaller boundary for your custom location does not change the amount it will cost. One custom location is included with both the Pro and Advanced subscriptions, however, if you were interested in more than one specific location, each additional custom location would cost a further $1,050.00 (excluding GST).

Historic data
USER:

One question I did have in terms of inclusions is whether the Pro seat for the Springly geography will include historical views as well? i.e. can I go back in time and if so, how far? Our real life observations of the place has led us to think that average visitation numbers look ok but in fact there is a great variation between when there is an event on and not. if the Pro Seat gives you access for 12 months, can I create a login for my client as ultimately they will have paid for it and will want to keep using past my project?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Thanks for the question. In short there are two ways you can access historic data - through our Discover tool (included in a Pro seat) or Insights Report (you need to opt in for 'archive reports' in your quote)When you buy a seat you are able to transfer it between logins if you'd like to. It's not uncommon for our consultants to initially have the account on their email address, and then once the project finishes we transfer the remainder of the account period to their client. Don't forget though that your client can have unlimited free seats, so they can have unlimited 'viewers' of the reports while you still have the primary access. Free seats don't have as much functionality as the paid seats, but they can still see most of the tools.

We are doing a study at the Council to better understand data and how we assess our projects oce they are completed. Things like positive place changes, behaviour changes and similar for say urban renewals, streetscape upgrades, open space upgrades etc.I was wondering does the Neighbourlytics program / platform look at this – post project completion? What are the qualitative data that can easily provide this information?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Our data system is often used in this way by teams like yours. The type of outcome you get, and how you set up your project really depends on the type of project (ie small streetscape change vs large park upgrade), as well as type of impact you expect to see (ie; visitation patterns to change, or more weekend activity etc)The Use Cases section of our Resource Base provides some great examples of how other Councils have used our tools. You're also welcome to book in a time to speak with one of our Placemaking or Community Data experts to get some 1:1 guidance on using our tools for your use case

We are currently conducting a high-level review for the potential to reposition for a government related tenant.Specifically, I am looking for some data for inclusion in an upcoming presentation around government tenants in the CBD. Ie heat map of where the employees at address 1, address 2, address 3, address 4 (all government anchored assets) are coming from across Greenvale and the amenity they spend their time in when in the CBD.Is this something we could obtain via Neighbourlytics?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Our tools can be used to show the existing visitation patterns to those locations, as well as use our walkability analysis feature to look at the most important amenities adjacent to each location. For analysis that is specific to your locations you’ll need to set up a custom location with one of our Pro or Advanced seats. Our Help Centre includes some helpful resources on how to choose and set up custom locations.

If we sign up in say October, do we get access to older data i.e. we sign up October 2024, can we get data from say July 2024 or earlier?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

There are three ways to access historical data in our tools: 1. Discover: All paid seats have access to historic behavioural data in our Discover tool, enabling you to check out monthly visitation, movement and activity hotspot data back to January 20232. Archive Reports: These reports are available as an 'Add On' to any paid account, and enable you to request a single historic month of your choice from our database. 3. Activity Trends Tool: This premium data add on can be added to any Insights Report, to show you the previous 13 months of activity levels across a location of your choosing.

Not sure if this something that can be amended but I have noticed that the mapping has picked up ‘Springly Beach’ and ‘Springly Foreshore’ which could be considered one location. I saw in the top amenities these were listed separately under the physical amenities but maybe they should be grouped, what do you think? Also ‘Greenvale’ and ‘Greenvale Park’ and few other dots could be grouped together.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

I shared your questions/suggestions with the team. What came out of the discussion is that our analytics system is designed to match points of interest together and eliminate duplicates wherever possible. For example, you shouldn't get results for Joe's Pizza, and Joe's Pizza Cafe, if it is a single business that happens to use variations of its trading name. That being said, we are very careful not to 'over-clean' the data. As our analytics are powered by crowdsourced data feeds (ie the community make our data as they use local neighbourhoods), sometimes the 'duplicates' are actually part of the insight. For example, a really popular pub may be mapped in our data as a pub, a beer garden, and a trivia room. Or over time a park - such as Hyde Park in Sydney - will show up as the park, the rose garden, the rotunda, and (maybe even) the public toilet.Essentially if the place plays multiple roles in the community, and they are genuinely interacting with it in different ways, or under different names, then you may see a number of results in our data for a single place. In the example of ‘Greenvale’ and ‘Greenvale Park’ that you raised, the place for 'Greenvale' is part of the Active Transit category, which indicates that it's referring to the skatepark within the park, whereas the place for 'Greenvale Park' is part of the Park or Reserve category, which indicates that it is referring to the actual park itself.

I was about to write to ask about enlarging the radius of my Springly report, what’s involved with that?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

In order to set up a location with a custom boundary we would need to know the required centrepoint of the radius (this can be provided as a street address, street intersection, as a latitude and longitude, etc) as well as how large you would like the radius to be.Please note that when setting up a custom boundary you must be mindful of size constraints for optimal results. If your radius is too large (exceeding 15km2), the boundary might encompass diverse areas with varying visitation patterns, which could dilute the specificity of your analysis. If you have a particular radius in mind, our team can guide you on the best size and shape for your location to ensure that the data you gather remains informative and relevant to your exploration of local lifestyle dynamics.I hope that's helpful - we also have an FAQ section on our website that gets regularly updated with popular questions if you're interested in learning more.

I was wondering about how to download a report as apart of the advanced seat functionality?I want to showcase the tool this morning to some of my team members in order to generate more interest and demand for the tool (and its other features). Just incase people can't login i was hoping to take them through a pdf of the report.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Thank you for your recent question about requesting a PDF. Yes, with an Advanced account you can request PDF access for any report. Unfortunately due to the size of the data, we haven't yet released the capability for you to download the report yourself from the browser (but we're working on it!). So - for now - to submit your request please send us the full URL of any report(s) that you want to access. Once we receive the request(s), our system will then generate the PDF and provide it via email. You can send us the URL via reply email, or just pop it into the question bar of the Help chat that you used to submit this question.
